LEAH & DAN’S LOVE STORY:
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met whilst living and studying in Brisbane through a mutual friend at a local pub. Dan was eager to impress and showed off his Melbourne shuffle dance moves that night. Love came easy for us; it didnt take long to realise that we had found our soul mate. A few months into dating, Dan moved to Orange NSW to commence his Graduate Program in the mining town and just six months later I followed him there and never looked back. On our first big trip overseas together (to Europe) Dan executed the most incredible proposal A surprise day trip to Salzburg (where I had always wanted to visit through my love for the film Sound of Music). On the way up the scenic Austrian mountain in a vintage cable cart Dan popped the question with the most elegant diamond ring. It was such a special surprise on what was already set to be an incredible holiday.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING PLANNING EXPERIENCE LIKE?
My wedding experience was unlike what you might imagine it to be/people warn you of: Even though we were living in Perth and had to plan majority of things via email/phone correspondence I think because we had a longer engagement meant plenty of time to plan, no rushing. I enjoyed taking my time researching and gathering ideas which is a part of why the entire day fell into place so smoothly and successfully.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU WHEN IT CAME TO YOUR WEDDING PLANS?
For all of our family and closest friends to share the memories with us and for everyone to have an amazing, unforgettable time.
WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING DRESS SEARCH EXPERIENCE LIKE?
I had a good idea of what style of dress I wanted (again, lots of research!), however I only went to a couple of boutiques and for me I could not go past Marilyn Crystelle (and that amazing lace!) knowing that my dress is not just another one off the rack it is a one off, designed and created specifically for me. Marilyn was so easy to work with and is truly so talented. The end product was everything I hoped for plus more.
DID YOU COMPLETE ANY DIY PROJECTS FOR YOUR WEDDING?
We would have loved to do more DIY products for the wedding as we both really enjoy that kind of thing. However being in Perth made that difficult. We were however able to design our own wedding invites and stationary which we loved!
HOW DID YOU STYLE YOUR CEREMONY & RECEPTION?
Your wedding style in 3 words: natural, beachy, boho Your wedding colours: neutral whites, natural woods and native greens
Because of the stunning, natural setting Hidden Grove and Noosa Waterfront Restaurant offers, for us it was important to not take away from the natural beauty of the settings so we opted to keep things simple and natural to compliment the setting. We used native greenery and florals with beachy boho touches.
DID YOU ADD ANY SPECIAL PERSONAL TOUCHES TO YOUR DAY?
Ceremony – We wrote our own vows for the ceremony which made it feel more personal and intimate. I wore my grandma’s engagement ring and Dan wore his Granddads pearl cufflinks (both have passed away).
Reception Dan and I made an alternative entrance to the reception, arriving over the little green love lock bridge with the spectacular sun setting behind us. We didnt think much of this when planning, however this touch to the day bought tears to some of our guests eyes!
It was important for us to keep in mind the people who we loved that could not be with us on the day, so we had a candle burning through the night in loving memory of those loved one. And we also displayed photographs of both our grandparents and parents wedding days.
HOW DID YOU CHOOSE THE OUTFITS FOR YOUR BRIDESMAIDS AND GROOMSMEN?
This was easy as we only had one person each! It was so perfect that way. The bridesmaid, Nat was able to have a say in what she wanted to wear which allowed her to feel comfortable and happy with how she looked!
DID YOU ORGANISE ANY ACTIVITIES OR ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE DAY?
We hired one of the public ferries to transport the guests from Hidden Grove to the restaurant. Guests enjoyed BYO beers and wine on board. Again, this was something we didnt expect to be a great deal but more just organised for the transport between venues, however many of our guests commented on how great the ferry ride was and that it was a nice transition between the two venues, keeping all the guests together mingling and drinking.
We had Love Note Music play at the reception. Dan and I couldnt believe it when our guests were dancing before the meals were even served! That was great to see.
WHAT MEANINGFUL SONGS WERE PLAYED AT YOUR WEDDING?
For our first dance, Love Note did a cover of Vance Joys Straight into Your Arms. We chose this song for our first dance as when we first listened to it, we felt we could relate as he sings about being away from his love for only a day and that is hard enough Dan does FIFO (fly in, fly out of Perth roster in the mines) which can be hard for us but it is always so great when he gets back home.
For dancing with our parents Love note played a cover of Sweet Child of Mine which was pretty cute. By then most of the guests were already up and dancing so everyone got involved!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE OTHER BRIDES PLANNING?
Main thing – Just remember, it is just one day so do not get too hung up on all the little things no one else at the wedding is going to care about your day as much as you do so dont feel pressured from all the wedding advertisements etc and the pressures from society in general these days to go over the top when you can have a beautiful wedding the way YOU want to do it.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
We were really stoked with how well the day went from beginning to end and how much everyone enjoyed themselves. We believe we chose the best suppliers on the coast which definitely attributed to how well our day went – thank you, all!!!
